This is Netflix’s most expensive project in Latin America to date, with Colombian groups and indigenous communities providing the props and backdrops for the series… 100 Years of Solitude is one of the greatest literary highlights of the Spanish language. Its style is unparalleled and its scope surpasses all imagination. Its characters are so well-drawn that any screenwriter would have no trouble writing them for the screen. However, the seemingly insurmountable problem of adapting the novel was the length. Condensing a hundred years of family and national history was an impossible task. Almost 60 years after its publication, the novel has found a cinematic home on Netflix. Only streaming can do that, and the first 2 episodes are very promising. Great photography, art direction, and respect for the characters. The voiceover is essential for García Márquez’s beautiful prose to emerge from time to time. The plot unfolds smoothly with richness and depth. I love it, and I was a little skeptical that the magical world of GGM could be transferred to the screen. The wall is my book success so far..
